Supporting and showcasing excellence in social enterprise

by | Oct 6, 2025

In the coming weeks, the team at Keegan & Pennykid will be putting on their glad rags to enjoy two glittering awards ceremonies, hosted respectively by Social Enterprise Scotland and Social Enterprise UK.

We sponsor both of these events as part of a wider sponsorship programme that stretches across the charity, voluntary and social enterprise sectors.

In the hubbub of a glitzy awards evening, it’s easy to forget exactly what’s brought everyone together. This is why I wanted to take a moment to explain why our sponsorship programme is so important to us and why it’s such an integral part of who we are and what we do.

 Cultural connections

Keegan & Pennykid is a second-generation family business that’s approaching its 60th anniversary (2028). We’ve built longstanding relationships with our clients on the back of our commitment to providing expert insurance and risk management advice in an ethical and highly personalised way.

We believe in the ethos of a ‘job well done’ and in recognising those who make it their business not just to do their job, but to go out of their way to make a positive impact on those they support.

We’ve supported charities, voluntary organisations and social enterprises since the day we opened our doors. The work done by our clients and indeed all operators in these sectors is as incredible and inspiring as it is essential and life changing.

To recognise this longstanding connection and to showcase those doing exceptional work, Keegan & Pennykid has made a conscious decision to sponsor specific awards ceremonies. These include the Social Enterprise Scotland and Social Enterprise UK events due to take place in November, as well as the Scottish Charity Awards, which announced its winners in June.

 Awards in focus

The Social Enterprise Awards Scotland ceremony takes place on 6th November, at an event in Glasgow’s voco© Grand Central Hotel. Keegan & Pennykid is the headline sponsor for the event as well as serving as a judge for the ‘Social Enterprise of the Year’ category.

It was a privilege to judge the entries, and the winner of this category will be named from the following list of worthy finalists:

  • BRAG Enterprises
  • INCH Architecture + Design
  • Kanzen for Life
  • Scarf
  • The Boardwalk
  • UCan – Learn. Work. Live

Later in November on the 26th, The UK Social Enterprise Awards will hold their gala event at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London’s Southbank Centre. We’re sponsoring the ‘UK Social Enterprise’ category in which the following organisations have been shortlisted:

  • Centre for Information Resilience CIC
  • Change Please
  • London Early Years Foundation
  • Platfform
  • Tarem Services Limited
  • Useful Simple Trust

These two awards celebrate the incredible contributions made by a host of different social enterprises that are making a real difference in combating some of the most challenging and intractable social and environmental problems. Their efforts demonstrate that positive change is possible and, more importantly, provide practical solutions that generate such change.

Back in June we also sponsored the ‘Charity of the Year’ category at the Scottish Charity Awards. To ensure recognition for organisations of all sizes, the category is split into three separate awards.

The winners were:

  • Touch of Love Outreach – Charity of the Year (under £100k turnover)
  • Interfaith Scotland – Charity of the Year (turnover £100k – £500k)
  • Blue Triangle – Charity of the Year (turnover over £500k)

These organisations impact the lives of tens of thousands of people across their range of local and national activities.

If you’re looking for inspiration, take a moment to look up the winners and shortlisted organisations for yourself. Perhaps it’ll generate some ideas for your own organisation or just give you a boost as you read about their incredible work.

 Partnership

Keegan & Pennykid is proud of its association with the charity, voluntary and social enterprise sectors. The services provided by organisations within these sectors are an essential lifeline to many and help to create a better society for us all.

We’ve built up almost six decades of experience serving organisations in these sectors. We take a friendly approach to business, but we’re extremely serious about our responsibility to clients and our need to give professional, expert and tailored advice to each and every organisation.

Working in partnership with our clients we help to identify and quantify the risks they face in a continually changing operating environment and to provide guidance on the most appropriate risks management and insurance options available.

We seek to make them more resilient in the face of ever mounting challenges and to ensure they can continue to act as agents of cohesion and support in our society for years to come. If you would like to speak to us about protecting your organisation, please get in touch today and we will be happy to help.
