Electricity at Work Regulations 1989

What is their purpose?
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR '89) contains a comprehensive list of legal requirements designed to prevent the risk of death or personal injury from the use of electricity in all places of work.

What does the law say?
EAWR '89 places legal responsibility on owners, operators and employers to ensure that electrical systems and equipment used at work under their control are maintained so as to prevent danger and are safe.

How do you ensure safety?
The most effective way to ensure safety is to introduce a planned preventative maintenance programme incorporating periodic inspection and testing by a competent person.

How can Royal & SunAlliance help?
Royal & SunAlliance offer an extensive portfolio of inspection and testing services to support compliance with the law.

Why it pays to use Royal & SunAlliance
Experience has proven that the expenditure on independent electrical examinations is negligible in relation to the financial and legal consequences of, say, a major fire, personal injuries or fatalities, any of which can result from the neglect of faults in electrical installations and equipment.
